Thomas J. Gentile, 87, of Las Vegas, NV, formerly of Syracuse (Lyncourt), NY,
passed away peacefully after a long illness on August 17, 2020, with his family by his side.
Tom was born on March 27, 1933, graduated from North High School in 1951,
served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, and retired from Western Electric.
Tom and his wife, June, enjoyed 61 wonderful years of marriage,
30 of them in Las Vegas where they loved to entertain visiting family and friends.
Tom’s early childhood was spent growing up on Delhi and Lodi Streets in Syracuse’s lower East Side.
During his high school years, Tom enjoyed sports and lettered in
both basketball and baseball, and was voted “best dancer” of the class of 1951.
Tom had a passion for horse racing, was a man of integrity and complete dedication to his family,
with a magnificent sense of humor, who loved to sing and dance.
He had a gift for friendship and was well-loved by many.
A devout Catholic and family man, he was most proud of his 7 children,
8 grandchildren, and his great-grandson.
Tom was predeceased by his loving wife, Jean (June Liadka),
his mother Mary C. (Sacco) Gentile, father Joseph Gentile, and daughter Wendyann.
He is survived by his children: Thomas A. Gentile, Maryanne Gentile, Jacqueline Gentile,
Joseph (Joyce) Gentile, James B. Gentile, John D. Gentile, Jean M. (Mike) Linkiewicz,
his grandchildren, great-grandson, an aunt, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Tom will be greatly missed.
Services and burial in Assumption Cemetery
will be held privately at a later date.
